Governor Siminalayi Fubara acted decisively in response to recent political developments in Rivers State by calling a security council meeting at Government House in Port Harcourt.

Heads of security services convened behind closed doors on Tuesday to discuss growing tensions and risks to public order.

Following the meeting, Governor Fubara gave a press conference in which he reaffirmed the state government’s steadfast commitment to maintaining law and order.

“In the absence of further instructions, we have directed local government heads to take command,” he said.

Governor Fubara expressed concern about alleged breaches at local government council secretariats and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to maintaining stability in the face of the present difficulties.

“It’s very unfortunate that we started hearing some disturbing news from some local governments about the invasion of their council secretariat,” he said.

He also highlighted the presence of adversaries with ulterior motives, declaring, “We are also aware that our enemy is also planning a lot of things. We will not go into a place where we will allow them to destroy the state.”

The governor warned of a purported scheme to arrest his supporters, vowing to stand in their defence.

“I am also aware that there is a grand plan to arrest some of our supporters, this time around, you have to pass through me to arrest them,” he asserted. “I don’t think there is anything that any of those people following us have done other than standing on our side.”

“If it costs us our life to stand on the path of truth, we will go, and I will be the one that will pay this price,” he proclaimed.

Governor Fubara emphasized the significance of law and order, affirming, “The law is clear; there will be no tenure extension as per the court’s decision. I urge anyone spreading contrary assurances to cease, as peace is paramount for our state.”

Despite this, Governor Fubara reiterated his dedication to upholding peace and order, declaring, “I assure everyone that I am committed to maintaining peace and order at all costs.”
