In the event that he is re-elected, former President Donald Trump has promised to immediately give green cards to foreign graduates of American institutions.
According to Al Jazeera, this is an unexpected turnabout for the Republican leader, who is well-known for his strict immigration laws.
Shortly after President Joe Biden balanced his recent actions against illegal border crossings with the announcement of a Green Card pathway for immigrants married to U.S. citizens, Trump made his statements.
Trump Vows Start Largest Deportation in American History if Re-Elected
A green card is a means of obtaining citizenship and permits a person to live and work in the United States forever.
Trump promised to streamline the procedure for bringing talent to the country in a podcast interview with Silicon Valley tech investors on Thursday. He also stated that anyone who completes education in the United States should be permitted to stay in the country.
“It’s so sad when we lose people from Harvard, MIT, the greatest schools, and lesser schools that are phenomenal schools also.
“What I want to do and what I will do is, you graduate from a college, I think you should get automatically as part of your diploma a green card to be able to stay in this country,” Trump told the All-In podcast.

According to the former president, this should apply to “anybody who graduates from a college,” which includes both doctorate holders and students who finish two-year programmes at junior colleges.
“I do promise,” Trump said in response to a question about whether he would assist in bringing the “best and the brightest around the world to America.”
“I know of stories where people graduated from a top college, or from a college, and they desperately want to stay here… and they can’t.
“They go back to India, they go back to China. They do the same basic company in those places and they become multi-billionaires employing thousands and thousands of people,” Trump said.
He also emphasized that US companies need “smart people,” adding, “They can’t even make a deal with a company because they don’t think they’ll be able to stay in the country.” He vowed, “That is going to end on day one.”

Trump’s idea is a major departure from his strict immigration views, which helped him come to prominence in the Republican Party and might lead to hundreds of thousands of additional applications for citizenship annually.
If reelected in November, Trump—who previously declared that immigrants were “poisoning the blood of our country”—promised to carry out the greatest expulsion of undocumented immigrants in US history. President Joe Biden, the Democratic opponent, has drawn constant criticism from him for his lax immigration policies.
Between 2017 and 2021, when he was president, Trump issued an executive order to build a wall along the US-Mexico border and imposed travel restrictions on citizens of nations with a large Muslim population.
His comments followed Democratic opponent Joe Biden’s Tuesday easing of visa requirements for almost 500,000 US national spouses, which facilitated their application for naturalisation.
