Three communities in Nnewi, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi have resolved to pull out of the town union body of Nnewi Community, Nzuko-Ora Nnewi.
Anaedoonline. ng gathered that the President General of Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewichi has decided to withdraw the membership of the three communities from the town union body.
Nnewi, which is a confederation of four (4) communities bound by an accord deified through Agbanano Nnewi, comprises Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewichi, is currently faced with the resurging call for the four communities to seek autonomous status.
The recent call for autonomy of Uruagu, Umudim, and Nnewichi became prominent following the recent letter written to the Traditional Ruler of Uruagu Nnewi, His Highness, Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi (Ogidi IV), by Anambra State Ministry of Chiefiancy and Local Government Affairs, to refrain from attaching “HIS HIGHNESS” to his name and also to stop conferment of Chieftiancy title.
It will be recalled that in December 2023, the Obi of Uruagu, Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi (Ogidi IV), Obi of Umudim, Obi Benneth Okafor (Amakwu), and Obi of Nnewichi, Obi George Onyekaba (Obidiugwu), in their respective palace conferred Chieftiancy title to the sons and daughters of their communities.
The letter written to the Traditional Ruler of Uruagu Nnewi, which has sparked controversies, especially in Uruagu, has resulted in the call for autonomy of the three (3) communities.
Our correspondent learnt that the President-General of the three communities; Chief Innocent Okoli (Uruagu), Chief Uzochukwu Anyadiegwu (Umudim), and Elder Sorge Egbuna (Nnewichi) have resolved to temporarily withdraw the membership of their communities in Nzuko-Ora Nnewi.
