Nnewi Crisis: Uruagu Community Withdraws From 2024 Afiaolu Festival

Uruagu Nnewi Community has announced that the community will not participate in the centrally organized Nnewi Afiaolu Festival.

Anaedoonline. ng gathered that the President-General of the Community, Chief Innocent Okoli, made this known during the last general meeting of the community.

According to him, the withdrawal is in protest of the recent embarrassing letter written to the Traditional Ruler of Uruagu Nnewi, His Highness, Obi Afamefuna Charles Obi (Ogidi IV), by Anambra State Ministry of Chieftaincy and Local Government Affairs, which instigated by three (3) individuals from Nnewi.

In the letter, which came as a shock to Uruagu Nnewi, Ogidi IV was warned to stop attaching “HIS HIGHNESS” to his name and also to stop confermentChieftiancy title in Uruagu Nnewi.

Our correspondent also gathered that Uruagu Nnewi has started making arrangements to organize their own Nnewi Afiaolu Festival in grand style. Former Nnewi North Transition Committee Chairman, and the current Vice-chairman of Uruagu Nnewi Community Development Union, Chief Mbazululike Amaechi has been appointed as Chairman of Uruagu Nnewi Afiaolu Festival.

The opening ceremony of the festival will be held at Obi Uruagu Nnewi Palace. According to a stakeholder in Nnewi who pleaded anonymity, Umudim and Nnewichi will make their statement soon.
