The African Democratic Congress (ADC) leadership has pledged to participate in the August 1 countrywide hunger protest.

At the inauguration of the Akwa Ibom State Executives and State Working Committee of the party, as well as the launching of a new office, the party’s National Chairman, Chief Raph Nwosu, made this news on Monday in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.

According to Nwosu, the demonstration represents the failure of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), which have jointly controlled the nation for the previous 24 years.

He made it clear that the ADC is prepared to work with other stakeholders to resolve the issue.

Additionally, he criticised Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he perceived to be an attempt to utilise security personnel and financial resources to quell the protest, implying that the President was afraid of a strike.

“Why are you people scared of protest? You are telling people who are hungry not to strike? And you have marshalled security apparatuses, every arsenal to stop that strike, moving money from legislators to everywhere, the executive members of the cabinet have been giving money to stop the strike.

“Why can’t you bring the money for people to find food to eat, is it a democracy or dictatorship? If they are not able to pacify Nigerians, I will make sure that I, the National Chairman of ADC will be on the road with Nigerians because the people own the state. The state don’t own the people. Nigerians are tired of the two parties. APC and PDP, Nigerians are tired of them.”

Speaking at the event, ADC’s State Chairman, Mr. Dick Udom, declared that the party was prepared to win the State House of Assembly and governor’s race in 2027.

“The two big parties have failed the people and they are eager to give us a chance to make the difference in 2027. We are not going to rest on our oars until we achieve that goal,” he said.

The recently appointed Akwa Ibom state representative to the ADC Board of Trustees, Dr. Godwin Umontuen, said the party has continuously supported and fought for good governance in Nigeria.
