Tolu Bankole, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Working Committee, has raised concerns about the safety of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in light of the upcoming nationwide protest. Bankole, who is responsible for addressing PWD issues within the ruling party, issued a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for caution.

The #EndBadGovernance demonstration, scheduled from August 1 to 15, has sparked significant tension and mixed reactions across Nigeria. The protest, driven by the rising cost of living and economic challenges, has garnered support from numerous youths eager to participate.

Bankole appealed to both protest organizers and the Federal Government to exercise restraint and prioritize dialogue. He urged Nigerian youths to reconsider the mass action, highlighting the potential risks to physically challenged individuals who might be adversely affected by the protests.

“The risk of such demonstrations being hijacked and spiraling into violence is significant,” Bankole stated. “Our priority should be to engage in constructive dialogue with government officials at all levels. We must avoid a repetition of the unfortunate violence witnessed during the EndSARS movement.”

He stressed that PWDs are among the most vulnerable in society and could suffer disproportionately from any violence or disruptions. Bankole called for peaceful engagement methods to ensure their safety and well-being.

“President Bola Tinubu has implemented several policies aimed at revitalizing our economy and improving the standard of living for all Nigerians. I call on all stakeholders to channel their energies into meaningful dialogue and collaboration with the government, rather than risking escalation into violence. Together, we can work towards positive change while safeguarding the rights and lives of every Nigerian,” Bankole concluded.
