Nnewi North Chairmanship Aspirant, Under the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Okey Offor, has called on delegates of the party to look at the educational background, exposure, competence, and experience of aspirants in the party, ahead of the party primaries.
Mr. Okey Offor, who spoke to Anaedoonline.ng, expressed shock and dissatisfaction that some aspirants who didn’t have the discipline to finish their education in school are contesting for a position meant for those who are equipped with strong administrative and managerial skills.
He said that a strategic town like Nnewi should have a Chairman who is intellectually mobile, and, experienced in rudiment of governance and public policy. He stated that it will be very unfortunate to have a Chairman who does not possess a serious educational qualification at the helm of affairs at the local government.
According to him, he said that education is very important in leadership, because education brings knowledge, and without knowledge, the Chairman won’t be able to interact with other leaders across the state and nation.
Speaking further, he said that if education is not important, most of the aspirants in the race won’t have sent their children to school or marry wives who have degree certificates. He added that no serious organization or company will entrust their management into the hands of someone without proven experience and sound educational background.
On the issue of age, Mr. Okey Offor, who is a lecturer in the Mass Communication Department, Federal Polytechnic Oko, said that age has nothing to do with providing good leadership. He stated that leadership is about vision and experience, and not youthfulness, as many aspirants are parading as part of competence, noting that Yahaya Bello, who was the youngest Governor in his time, was a complete failure.
DIVISION: NNEWI RESOLVE INTERNAL CRISIS
Speaking on his plans for Nnewi, he said that although he plans to unveil his manifesto after the party primaries, if given the opportunity, he will improve the security, education, infrastructure, and economy of the town, nothing that he understands local government administration better than others, having occupied the office of the Vice Chairman in the past.
He appealed to party delegates to shun money and look at the competence and capacity of all the aspirants, in addition to thinking about the future of Nnewi, before taking a decision, ahead of the party primaries.
