The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a suspect involved in the trafficking of teenagers aged between 13 and 16 years. This was revealed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, during a press briefing in Awka.

Ikenga stated that the suspect had been responsible for trafficking multiple teenagers to neighboring countries, with some victims already taken to Ghana. However, the police have successfully rescued and returned some of these teenagers to Nigeria. Efforts are ongoing to locate and apprehend other members of the trafficking gang.

The suspect’s arrest followed increasing reports of missing teenagers in the state. According to Ikenga, the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has instructed police officers to take all necessary steps to tackle the issue of child trafficking.

“The suspect is currently being interrogated, which will help us in rescuing more victims and tracking down other members of the trafficking syndicate,” Ikenga said.
