The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced its intention to suspend Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, for his alleged involvement in anti-party activities. Speaking at a press conference held at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday, APGA’s National Chairman, Chief Edozie Njoku, accused Soludo of obstructing efforts to restore harmony within the party and continuing to engage in actions that undermine its interests.
Njoku disclosed that on Thursday, September 26, 2024, the NWC would release the names of members involved in anti-party activities, including Soludo. He emphasized that APGA had not endorsed a sole candidate for the upcoming off-cycle governorship election in Anambra State, casting doubt on Soludo’s chances of securing the party’s nomination through the primaries. He clarified that all aspirants would have to go through a fair and transparent primary process to become the party’s candidate.
Reflecting on the legal battles APGA has faced, Njoku noted that despite the Supreme Court’s ruling affirming his position as National Chairman, efforts were made to prevent his recognition by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He highlighted recent attempts to file legal actions behind the party’s back, accusing some individuals of attempting to manipulate the legal system to undermine APGA’s leadership.
Njoku criticized Governor Soludo for attempting to pass laws through the House of Assembly that would restrict the party from fielding candidates in elections. He accused Soludo of organizing anti-party activities and emphasized that no individual, including the governor, is bigger than the party.
While the NWC has been advocating for peace within APGA, Njoku warned that the party is being pushed to take action, including suspending key figures, if necessary. He noted that the NWC had reached an agreement on suspending members involved in anti-party activities, with Soludo being one of the primary figures under consideration.
Njoku concluded by urging Soludo to align himself with the party’s principles, warning that APGA would not hesitate to take disciplinary action if the governor continued to undermine the party’s unity.
