The Take It Back (TIB) Movement has suggested holding a virtual meeting with the Lagos State Police Command, citing logistical challenges with attending in person. This proposal was outlined in a letter addressed to the Assistant Commissioner of Police, State Intelligence Department, Jaiyeoba Joseph, by the group’s legal representatives, Inibehe Effiong Chambers, on Wednesday.
The suggestion follows an invitation extended by the police on Tuesday, asking key TIB members, including its National Coordinator, Sanyaolu Juwon, to meet with the new Commissioner of Police, Olanrewaju Ishola. The meeting, intended to discuss “issues of national interests,” comes ahead of the TIB’s planned October 1 protest.
Anonymous sources within TIB expressed concerns that the police’s request for a physical meeting could be a strategy to detain them. However, the Lagos State police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the invitation and assured that the meeting would be amicable, emphasizing there was no intention to arrest anyone. He also confirmed that the upcoming protest would be a key topic during the discussion.
In their letter, the TIB explained that many executive members were currently outside Lagos, making it difficult for them to attend a physical meeting on such short notice. The movement proposed a virtual meeting as a more practical alternative, allowing all participants to contribute effectively from remote locations. Should a face-to-face meeting be necessary, the group offered to reschedule for early October when all key members would be available.
The October 1 protest, themed *#FearlessInOctober*, aims to highlight pressing national issues, particularly the economic hardships Nigerians face due to inflation and fuel scarcity. The movement remains committed to addressing these concerns through peaceful activism and open dialogue with the authorities.
