The royal household of Nnewi mourns a great loss as HRH Igwe Kenneth Orizu III, the arguably longest-serving traditional ruler in Nigeria, laid his beloved wife, HRH Lolo Catherine Nwazunafia Orizu, to rest. The revered monarch’s palace in Nnewi, Anambra State, became a gathering ground for prominent figures, dignitaries, and well-wishers from across the country who came to pay their final respects to the late Lolo Catherine.
The burial ceremony, held at the Nnewi palace, was a blend of solemnity and reverence, reflecting the traditional customs and heritage of the Nnewi people. Top personalities from various sectors—including government officials, business moguls, and other traditional rulers—were present to support Igwe Orizu and honor the memory of his wife, who was widely respected for her grace and contributions to the community.

Among the notable attendees were prominent political figures, including the senate President who sent a representative, federal lawmakers, Anambra State house of Assembly lawmakers and other government representatives, who offered words of comfort and solidarity to the grieving family. Business leaders and influential figures from the South-East region were also present, underlining the reach and impact of the Orizu family’s legacy.
In his tribute, Igwe Orizu described Lolo Catherine as a “pillar of strength and compassion,” highlighting her unwavering dedication to her family and community. Her commitment to uplifting the lives of women and children in Nnewi was also celebrated, with many recalling her philanthropy and advocacy for education and healthcare.
Traditional rites and prayers were conducted in her honor, allowing the Nnewi community to pay homage to the late Lolo Catherine in a culturally resonant ceremony. Ndubuisi Obi, the CEO ABC Transport, Mr. Frank Nneji, CEO Chisco Transport, Chief Chidi Anyaegbu (MFR), Chief Chika Emenike, the CEO of KOTEC Group, Archbishop of Nnewi Diocese, Rt. Revd. Dr. Godwin Izundu Nmezinwa Okpala, the president of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Afam Osigwe, SAN, the Obi Umudim, Obi Bennett Okafor JP. The event lasted for three days to allow everybody, including in-laws and Nnewi community to pay homeage to the late matriach.
