Twelve Russian UN officials have been expelled out of the country by the United States.
They were accused of participating in “actions that were not in conformity with their responsibilities and obligations as diplomats,” according to the complaint.
Ambassador Richard Mills, the United States’ Deputy Representative to the United Nations, stated this during a UN Security Council meeting on Monday afternoon.

Meanwhile, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia slammed Mills’ statement, calling it “insufficient.”
In a statement, the US Mission to the United Nations acknowledged that the 12 Russian diplomats were “intelligence agents.”
He said the diplomats had violated their residence privileges in the US by participating in “espionage actions that are detrimental to our national security.”
“In compliance with the headquarters agreement, we are taking this step. Today’s action has been planned for several months,” said Olivia Dalton, a spokesperson for the US Mission.
The US and other Western countries have slapped Russia with a slew of sanctions in response to President Vladimir Putin’s decision to invade Ukraine.

The conflict, which began last Thursday, has already claimed the lives of hundreds of people, including women and children.
