In Saturday’s local government elections in Abia State, the Young Progressives Party (YPP) secured two seats, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) secured fifteen chairmanship positions.
This declaration was made at the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission’s (ABSIEC) headquarters in Umuahia by Prof. George Chima, the commission’s chairman.

“It was not an easy task, but we went out on our way to create awareness about the elections across the state.
“It must be noted that, in recent times, this commission has not conducted an election where over 12 political parties took part, this on its own is a plus to the commission,” Chima said.
He described the chairmanship and councillorship elections as free, fair, and credible, and said they were held throughout the 17 Local Government Areas.
The elections, according to the head of ABSIEC, were an example of the commission’s commitment, concentration, and effectiveness.
Chima was delighted that the commission had finished the task, which normally took six to twelve months of work, in just two months.
