According to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), more than 100 individuals have been detained by the military in relation to the Indigenous People of Biafra and Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) attack on a military checkpoint in Abia State, which resulted in the deaths of five service members.
Major General Edward Buba, the Director of Defence Media Operations, announced this on Thursday.
He disclosed that after conducting an initial inquiry, the soldiers freed those who were not responsible for the assault.

Recall that on May 30, 2024, a military checkpoint at Obikabia Junction in Obingwa local government areas adjourning Aba metropolis in Abia State was stormed by suspected IPOB/ESN separatists.
Later, in a statement, the military high command revealed that the attack claimed the lives of five soldiers and six civilians, and it threatened to launch a vigorous counterattack.
Two weeks after the incident, General Buba briefed reporters on the progress of the military’s intelligence-based operations. These operations resulted in the identification and demolition of many terrorist camps run by IPOB and ESN in the region, including one at Igboro Forest in Arochukwu LGA of Abia State.

“Several arrests were made from the raids with those found to be culpable still in detention. Surely, there is intelligence value to the raids and arrests that were made. Those in detention are assisting troops to locate other camps, sleeper cells and high-profile individuals involved in the activities of the terrorist group”, Bubba said.
