On Tuesday, Julius Abure was reinstated as the national chairman of the Labour Party, LP by a Federal High Court in Abuja.
The court declared the 2024 Labour Party national convention conducted in Nnewi, which re-elected Abure, is lawful, finding that the convention was in conformity with the laid down regulations in Nigeria.
This was said in a statement made public by Obiora Ifoh, the party’s national publicity secretary, on Tuesday.
The statement claims that during the verdict delivery, Justice Emeka Nwite ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, to provide the Labour Party’s National Working Committee—led by Abure—proper recognition and all privileges.
UPDATE: I’m Still Labour Party National Chairman – Abure
According to Anaedoonline.ng, INEC declared that Abure was not recognised as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
The Commission contended that the LP leadership under Abure was illegitimate, claiming that the National Convention in March 2024, which reconfirmed Abure as chairman, had contravened both the Electoral Act and the Nigerian Constitution.
