Isaac Oluyamo, the Diocesan Bishop of Ijesa North Anglican Diocese, has made a heartfelt appeal to both Federal and State Governments to implement improved welfare packages for teachers. This call was made during a special program organized by the diocese for educators in Ijebu-Jesa, Osun State.
Bishop Oluyamo proposed that the welfare packages could include car and housing loans, as well as special allowances to recognize the essential role teachers play in shaping future leaders. In a statement obtained in Osogbo on Wednesday, he emphasized the need for government initiatives aimed at enhancing the working and living conditions of teachers.
“Government at all levels should create schemes to ensure better working and living conditions for teachers. These schemes should include the provision of loans to purchase cars and build houses. Special allowances should also be given to them, and their promotions should come as and when due,” he stated.
Highlighting the critical impact teachers have on the younger generation, the bishop noted, “Teachers play a major role in shaping the lives of the younger generation, molding them into ideal minds that will provide the right leadership.” He stressed the importance of ensuring that teachers have stable mental states to perform their duties effectively, adding, “Whatever will enable them to discharge their duties, the government must provide, as the wellbeing of the people remains a primary responsibility of government at all levels.”
In addition to his appeal to the government, Bishop Oluyamo urged teachers to remain dedicated and committed to their roles, reminding them to approach their work with integrity and a sense of duty. He encouraged educators to continue their service to humanity by providing the best training possible for Nigeria’s future leaders.
