Dennis Ikegwuonu, the respected market leader of Nnewi, in a surprising turn of event declared his intention to withdraw from the upcoming Nnewi North Chairmanship election. Known for his significant influence in the Nkwo Nnewi market and the community at large, Ikegwuonu withdrew from the campaign citing personal reasons.
Ikegwuonu did not, however, abandon his supporters without direction. He officially endorsed Okey Offor as his favourite candidate for the Nnewi North Chairmanship, a move that surprised a lot of people. Mr. Okey Offor is a Mass Communication lecturer at Federal Polytechnic Oko, Anambra State. He is a political leader and a loyal All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) member . However, All eyes will be on Offor as the election date approaches, carrying the weight of Ikegwuonu’s endorsement into the campaign.
Okey Offor will be vying for the top local government position with Echezona Anazodo, Chinedu Ubah, Ngozi Ubah all gunning for the party ticket.
The Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) recently announced that local government elections in Anambra State will be held on 28 September 2024, this is the first local government election after ten (10) years.
