Seven months after the previous administration officially opened it, the contractor Julius Berger has given the Second Niger Bridge to the Federal Government.
Speaking to reporters just after being shown around the facilities and the road on Sunday by Dr. Lars Richter, Managing Director of Julius Berger, the Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi expressed his satisfaction with the quality of work completed.
Umahi praised the efforts of both the former and current administration in completing the work and called it “impeccable, very beautiful, and well completed.”

He claims that we have problems with light and that we have devised solutions to have light all the time, especially at night.
“What we have agreed is to deploy solar solution in the coming weeks so that every night we don’t have to run diesel.
“The roads are going to be completed when we have completed the two interchanges, one is taking us off from Asaba town to cut off the traffic, and the other one is going to be done by Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) Ltd to avoid Onitsha town and take you straight to Obosi.
“President Ahmed Tinubu is very committed to the project, and we are going to acquire more so that we can build service stations, filling stations, restaurants, supermarkets and other facilities as we see in the Western world.

“We are determined to do that; the need to do this with the interchanges is going to be a very smart one so that over the years we can have a beautiful and maintained road,” he said.
By providing closed-circuit television and several security guards to offer security assistance within five minutes, the minister further guaranteed bridge security.
Richter explained that the project was started by the previous government, and this was a technical handover.
He reported that Julius Berger had produced the best quality job, and the work had been successfully finished on schedule.
Speaking as well, Mr. Bede Obioha, Director of Bridges Design and Construction, South, Federal Ministry of Works, asked the locals around the second Niger bridge to assist in securing the facilities that have already been built as well as those that have not yet been put safely.

He thanked the contractors and the employees of his ministry for a job well done and advised the locals and drivers to follow by the rules of the road.
