Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has lamented the lack of capable leaders in the country, citing the image of corrupt politicians in Nigeria today.
This was revealed by Obi during his Keynote speech at the Jesuit Memorial College’s sixth graduation ceremony in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
He bemoaned the fact that the corrupt nature of the leaders has rendered them indifferent to the suffering of the people.
In his words, ” With our nation continually losing its conscience to corruption and insensitivity to the plight of the masses, we need a new generation of competent leaders with proven character, compassion and commitment to society’s progress.

He continued by saying that although Nigeria is endowed with the means to provide a wonderful life for its people, misguided leadership has left the country in a deplorable situation.
On the other hand, Obi said he hopes the graduating students would change the country for the better.
” Nigeria remains a blessed country, rich in human and natural resources, but only suffering from leadership failure. We, therefore, look forward to young ones like the graduating students, to leverage their education in learning and character, to cause a positive transformation of the nation,” he added.
