Dino Melaye, a former congressman, has emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the Kogi State governorship election on November 11.
Melaye is said to have received more votes than other candidates in the party’s weekend primary election.
According to Newsmen, Usman Ododo, the candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), will face off against the 8th national assembly legislator in the election.

Tony Ehilebo, a PDP leader, had already criticized Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for opposing Melaye’s bid for governor of Kogi.
Newsmen cite Wike’s comments that Melaye lacks the qualifications to lead Kogi State during a media interview he gave last week in Port Harcourt.
The governor of Rivers emphasized that winning the governorship election is not a joke and that the PDP would be making a grave error if the former senator were to become the party’s flagbearer for governor.
Melaye quickly responded by denouncing the governor for rejecting his bid for the governorship, claiming that Wike is upset that Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate, did not pick him as his running mate.
Wike allegedly called the gubernatorial candidate 19 times in two hours, pleading with him to persuade Atiku to endorse him for vice president.

In an interview with Newsmen on Friday, Ehilebo claimed Wike had the authority to meddle in the Kogi State election and had no right to claim Melaye lacked the qualifications to serve as governor.
The PDP Digital Media Head condemned Wike’s statements and his attempts to harm the opposition party. The Rivers governor shouldn’t believe that he can act inappropriately without someone calling him to order, he continued.
He said, “Thinking he can stop Dino is an abnormality; is Wike from Kogi State? What warranted him calling media houses and berating a candidate of his own party? What necessitated that?
“If he has issues or he wants to support another person in Kogi State, he should know how to do that. This belief that he can misbehave and nobody can call him to order is impossible.

“Dino himself should not have given a response. He could have issued a statement but shouldn’t toe the same part with Wike.”
