Philips Shaibu, the Edo State deputy governor who was reinstated, announced on Friday that he had become an unofficial member of the All Progressives Congress, or APC.
Because he hasn’t cut his ties to the Peoples Democratic Party, or PDP, Shaibu maintained he is still a member of the organisation.
He was speaking during an appearance on Morning Show on Arise Television.
Edo: Philip Shaibu Opens Up On Why He Was Impeached As Deputy Governor
The beleaguered deputy governor gave an explanation for his backing of Monday Okpebholo, the APC candidate for governor of Edo State, by saying that he was no longer affiliated with the PDP.
He said: “In PDP now, everybody can support whoever they like. On the issue of supporting a candidate, the constitution guarantees that you can support who you like and you can belong to any political party.”
Remember that Shaibu just gave Okpebholo campaign cars?
His disagreement with Governor Godwin Obaseki, which resulted in his impeachment as deputy governor, coincided with the contribution.
On Thursday, though, an Abuja Federal High Court restored Shaibu’s position as deputy governor.
