Billionaire Elon Musk has made a significant financial contribution to support Donald Trump’s bid for the U.S. presidency, donating nearly $75 million to a political action committee (PAC) he founded. The donation, confirmed through filings with the Federal Election Commission (FEC), highlights Musk’s growing influence in Trump’s campaign and his deepening involvement in Republican politics.
Musk, known as the world’s richest man, has become increasingly active in Trump’s campaign efforts, recently appearing on stage with the former president during a rally in Pennsylvania. He has also been vocal on social media, frequently criticizing Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who is Trump’s main competitor in the tight race for the White House.
Trump often praises Musk at his rallies, even promising to appoint him to a committee focused on reducing government bureaucracy if he is re-elected. Polls show a neck-and-neck contest between Harris and Trump as they vie for the presidency.
Musk’s America PAC, which raised $74.95 million for Trump’s campaign between July 1 and September 30, is heavily focused on grassroots efforts, particularly in key battleground states like Pennsylvania. The PAC offers financial incentives to supporters who assist with voter turnout, promoting $30 per hour for volunteers, along with performance bonuses. Musk also pledged $47 to anyone who convinces a swing-state voter to sign a petition supporting free speech and the right to bear arms.
The billionaire’s endorsement of Trump came after the Republican survived an assassination attempt in July. During the same reporting period, Kamala Harris’s primary PAC, the Harris Victory Fund, raised a massive $633 million. Harris entered the race after President Joe Biden withdrew following a poor debate performance against Trump in July, which rejuvenated the vice president’s campaign.
Since joining the race, Harris has energized the Democratic base and launched a widespread campaign across the country, with a strong focus on battleground states. Her PAC’s total receipts for the year are nearing $1 billion, with the latest FEC filing reporting $931.2 million in funds raised to date.
