Everton Struggling To Keep Iwobi

Everton midfielder Alex Iwobi’s numbers from last season have continued to show why the Toffees might find it difficult to hold on to him this summer, according to ANAEDOONLINE Sports Extra.

Iwobi was one of the select few Everton players to conclude the season on a high note despite the team’s unsettling performance.
On the final day of the season, the Toffees avoided relegation to the Championship despite having had a very difficult season under both Frank Lampard and Sean Dyche.

Even if Dyche did provide some consistency near the end of the season, he still needs to make significant improvements if the Toffees are to have better luck the following season, and maintaining Iwobi will be essential to that.

Iwobi played all 38 Premier League games last season, scoring two goals and eight assists in the process and was among the leaders in terms of distance covered in the Premier League last season.

Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse sits top of the pile with 433.38km covered, followed by Brighton ace Pascal Gross with 418.88km, as per the official Premier League website.

Can Iwobi Carry Over His Everton Form For Eagles?

West Ham star Declan Rice sits third on 412.95km, with the Hammers skipper followed by Toffees man Iwobi, who covered 405.77km throughout the season.

The 27-year-old was also crowned the club’s best player of the 2022/23 season, establishing himself as the most consistent player for the Toffees over the past two seasons and with his contract running out in June 2024, he has been a subject of transfer speculations just as he also delayed renewing his contract with the Merseyside club due to their doubtful Premier League status.

In a chat with our correspondent during Super Eagles training in Lagos for their 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone, Iwobi reiterated his desire to play in Europe’s elite football competition again, having once played for Arsenal at that level.
“Of course, everyone wants to play in the best competition in the world and especially since I’ve played in the competition before. I would like to aim and get there. Wherever I am next season, we have to wait and see,” Iwobi told ANAEDOONLINE Sports Extra.

Iwobi made a combined nine appearances in the Champions League for Arsenal in 2015/16 as well as 2016/17 seasons and scored a goal. His only goal in the competition was during Arsenal’s 4-1 away win against FC Basel in 2016.
