Nigeria has received assurances from the Finnish government that Simon Ekpa’s legal processes will soon come to an end.
Following a meeting with Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar of Nigeria and the foreign ministers of Sweden, Finland, Iceland, and Norway and Denmark, Elina Valtonen, the minister of foreign affairs for Finland, made this announcement.
After the meeting in Abuja, Valtonen spoke to the media and explained that Ekpa’s case was being handled by Finland’s legal system, which upholds the rule of law.
Finland-based Ekpa had been connected to the unrest in the Southeast.

The so-called “unknown gunmen” are thought to be the self-proclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra.
Some Nigerians had urged the Federal Government to bring Ekpa back to his home country so he could be prosecuted for his crimes after learning of his connection to insecurity in Nigeria.
After speaking with the five Nordic delegates, Tuggar did, however, affirm that the Ekpa issue was a major point of contention in his conversations with Valtonen.
It was of utmost importance. Nigeria would never communicate with Finland if Simon Ekpa was not brought up loudly, according to Tuggar.
In his speech, Valtonen restated Finland’s determination to cooperate with Nigeria on the issue.

“Both governments have stressed that the case is not a political issue but rather a judicial one, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the law as the proceedings unfold,” Valtonen stated.
