In a recent incident at the timber market on Kenyatta Street in Uwani, Enugu, a fire broke out, threatening to engulf multiple shops. Fortunately, swift action from the state Fire Service prevented a larger disaster.
According to reports from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the fire, which ignited on Tuesday evening, engulfed no fewer than five shops. However, thanks to the prompt response from the state Fire Service, the blaze was contained before it could spread to other areas of the plywood market.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a firefighter mentioned that they received a distress call around 9.45 pm alerting them to the fire. Without hesitation, the fire service sprang into action, successfully extinguishing the flames and limiting the damage to a handful of shops.
Eyewitnesses, including a man named Joe, recounted their experiences, expressing gratitude for the rapid intervention of both neighbors and the fire service. Joe noted that the fire was noticed shortly after the nationwide industrial strike by labor unions had been suspended. Thanks to the quick response, what could have been a disastrous event was averted.
