On Wednesday, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed announced the relaxation of 24-hour curfews that had been imposed in their respective states due to security concerns.
In Plateau State, Governor Mutfwang’s decision affects the Jos-Bukuru metropolis, where residents can now move freely between 2 pm and 6 pm daily until further notice. This change follows a noticeable improvement in the security situation. The announcement was made by Mutfwang’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, who stated that the governor made the decision after consultations with security agencies. Mutfwang commended the security forces for their diligence in enforcing the curfew and urged residents to remain vigilant to prevent any further disruptions. He also assured that the government would continue to monitor the situation and adjust the curfew as needed.
The curfew in Jos was initially imposed following incidents of looting in the Bauchi Road community and Zolo Junction by hoodlums.
Meanwhile, in Bauchi State, Governor Bala Mohammed also relaxed the 24-hour curfew in the Katagum Local Government Area, reducing it to a 12-hour curfew from 6 pm to 6 am daily. This decision was announced by the Secretary to the Bauchi State Government, Ibrahim Kashim, and comes as security in the area has significantly improved. The curfew had originally been imposed in response to unrest, including the destruction of public property and theft. Governor Mohammed expressed his gratitude to the law-abiding citizens for their cooperation and urged them to continue working with security agencies to maintain peace.
