Abia State Governor Alex Otti has authorised Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo’s suspension as the state’s commissioner of health.
Okey Kanu, the Commissioner for Information and Culture, made the announcement of the suspension in a formal statement on Tuesday.
According to the statement, Dr. Okoronkwo was placed on administrative leave in order to assist with the investigation of serious misconduct charges made against him.

Kanu stated that the suspension is in line with Governor Otti’s stringent zero-tolerance policy for wrongdoing of any kind as well as his dedication to accountability and openness in government.
The goal of the measure is to guarantee that all appointees continuously advance the welfare and well-being of the Abian people.
Kanu said, “The Abia State Government is committed to good governance and the rule of law under which persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
“Consequently, the administration is painstaking in investigating and establishing facts of infractions or misconduct uncovered by its internal monitoring and feedback system.

“In the light of these developments, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Ifeyinwa Kalu, will collaborate with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Health, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Azodo, to run the affairs of the Ministry in the interim, pending the outcome of further investigations into the allegations against Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo.”
