The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has called for immediate action to apprehend those responsible for the devastating explosion at the Nganzai Divisional Police Headquarters in Borno State. The attack, which occurred in the early hours of January 9, 2025, claimed the lives of two officers, Inspector Bartholomew Kalawa and Corporal Mustapha Huzaifat.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, it was revealed that suspected Boko Haram terrorists were behind the attack. The IGP strongly condemned the incident, emphasizing that no individual or group involved in the killing of police officers would escape justice.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, conveyed the IGP’s condolences to the families of the deceased officers. He assured them that their sacrifices in the line of duty would not be forgotten and that their benefits and entitlements would be promptly disbursed. “The nation honors their commitment to ensuring the safety of its citizens,” the statement read.
To ensure swift justice, the IGP directed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 15, Kenechukwu Onwuemelie, to mobilize all available resources and work in collaboration with other security agencies. The directive aims to track down and prosecute those responsible for this heinous act.
“The IGP has tasked AIG Onwuemelie to deploy personnel and collaborate with other agencies to bring the perpetrators to justice. Any individual or group that disrupts the nation’s security will be held accountable,” Adejobi stated.
This incident underscores the continued challenges faced by law enforcement in combating terrorism in Nigeria. Despite these threats, the IGP reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property.
Investigations into the attack are ongoing, as the police intensify efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
