The recently ended Kogi State governorship election has been characterised as free, fair, and credible by Prof. Dani Adam, the Independent National Electoral Commissioner (INEC) National Commissioner overseeing Kwara, Niger, and Kogi states.
Adam made this assertion on Friday in Lokoja, Kogi State, in spite of a request that the electoral authority postpone the governorship election.
Anaedoonline.ng is aware that two candidates for governorship—Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP)—have requested that the election be cancelled.

Melaye and Ajaka both asserted, at separate points in time, that there was widespread manipulation of the electoral process.
Adam emphasised that the election was legitimate and even verifiable by everyone at the Certificate of Return presentation to Ahmed Ododo, the governor-elect, and Joel Oyibo, his deputy, at the INEC state head office in Lokoja.
There is no question regarding the legitimacy of the election, according to Kogi State Resident Electoral Commissioner Gabriel Longpet, who also stated that “declaring Ododo and Oyibo the governor-elect and deputy governor-elect respectively was the best thing to do.”
In order for the people to benefit from democracy, he urged the remaining candidates to show good sportsmanship and work together with the incoming governor and deputy governor.
