Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is set to take on a new challenge as he steps into a high-level strategic role with Red Bull’s football operations. Red Bull, the company behind football clubs like RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, and New York Red Bulls, announced on Wednesday that Klopp would begin his tenure as head of football operations on January 1, 2025.
In a statement, Klopp expressed his enthusiasm for the role, saying, “After nearly 25 years on the sidelines, I couldn’t be more excited to be involved in a project like this.” Although he left Liverpool at the end of the 2023-24 season after nine successful years, Klopp isn’t completely leaving football management behind. Instead, he’s transitioning into a more strategic and advisory position where he will focus on guiding the coaches and management of Red Bull’s football clubs.
The 57-year-old clarified that his involvement wouldn’t be in the day-to-day operations but rather from a higher-level perspective. “I see my role primarily as a mentor for the coaches and management of the Red Bull clubs,” he said.
Interestingly, Sky Germany reported that Klopp’s contract includes an exit clause that would allow him to take over as manager of the German national team if an offer were to come his way.
During his time at Liverpool, Klopp revitalized the club, leading them to victory in both the Premier League and Champions League, adding to his legacy as one of modern football’s most successful managers. Now, in his new role with Red Bull, Klopp will aim to shape the future direction of their football operations, guiding multiple clubs under the Red Bull umbrella.
