Emeka Nwajuiba, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Education, has resigned to run for president in 2023.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the minister followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s Wednesday decree, which said that any minister pursuing a presidential candidacy should declare their posts vacant.

In this context, Nwajuiba resigned from his position on Wednesday.

During today’s Federal Executive Council meeting, President Buhari verified this, saying that the Minister had submitted his resignation to avoid a conflict of interest.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, Nwajuiba is one of six ministers who have shown interest in running for president in 2023 and have paid N100 million to do so on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Others are Ministers of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; Niger Delta, Godswill Akpabio; Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige; Science and Technology, Ogbonnaya Onu, and Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva.
