The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajaero on Thursday gave reasons why the Organised Labour accepted the proposal of N70,000 minimum wage from the President, Bola Tinubu.
Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, outlined the reasons behind the acceptance of this proposal. Speaking to State House reporters, Ajaero mentioned that the unions agreed to the new minimum wage due to additional incentives attached to it. He also highlighted a crucial promise made by President Tinubu: a review of the minimum wage every three years, a significant improvement over the previous system.
The N70,000 minimum wage is set to replace the N30,000 minimum wage, which expired on April 18, 2024. This change, once approved by the National Assembly, aims to enhance the living standards of Nigerian workers and reflect the country’s economic realities.
President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed the approval of the new minimum wage, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare. This development is expected to have a positive impact on the economy and the quality of life for many Nigerians.
