Isah Sanusi, the country director for Amnesty International, verified the death toll, declaring that more than 120 people perished in the explosion.
He disputed the first death toll given by NEMA, citing at least 77 dead in each of the mass graves.
Both the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) and the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) denounced the incident and demanded a thorough inquiry and penalties for those found to be at fault.
In addition to expressing sympathy, President Bola Tinubu asked for inquiries into the sad event.
Concerned citizens, Transparency International, the Northern States Governors’ Forum, and civil society organisations are calling for responsibility and a thorough examination of the bombing’s circumstances.
Speaking to reporters, Maj. Gen. Edward Buba, Director of Defence Media Operations, stated that the incident would be looked into by the military.
He indicated that a commission would be formed to investigate the situation and that information would be shared.
