On Tuesday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was given an injunction by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja to acknowledge Julius Abure as the official Chairman of the Labour Party.
The Labour Party’s previous presidential candidate for 2023, Peter Obi, has urged party members to maintain composure and patience while leaders continue to confer and discuss the Federal High Court ruling upholding Mr. Julius Abure’s position as national chairman.

In her decision, Justice Nwite endorsed the party’s Abure-led leadership.
Along with recognising the national leadership that was produced at the Party’s March 2024 Nnewi convention, he also issued an order requiring INEC to accept the leadership.
The party’s previous presidential candidate responded to the ruling by advising followers to be committed and not let the present events distract them from solving the urgent problems facing the public at large.
According to him, their objective is to come out stronger, more cohesive, and as one cohesive front.
Obi, a former governor of Anambra state stated, “Yesterday, Governor Alex Otti @alexottiofr and I, along with the Caretaker Chairman and Secretary of the Labour Party, convened to discuss and review recent developments, including the judgment delivered by an Abuja High Court on the same day.

“I urge all members of the Labour Party to remain calm and patient as we continue to engage in discussions and consultations.”
He added, “Our goal is to emerge stronger and more unified, standing together as one united front.
“We must not allow this to divert us from addressing the pressing issues affecting our people today.
“We have always known that the task of creating a new Nigeria that is possible will not come without challenges.”
