  • The Kogi State House of Assembly, on Tuesday, rejected the nomination of Alhaji Ali Lawal Jiya as a member of the State Independent Electoral Commission, KOSIEC.

The Assembly turned down his nomination following his refusal to appear before the House for screening.

  • Meanwhile, Justice Sentus Nweze, one of the members of the 7-man panel differed on the ruling on the review of judgement on Imo State governorship election, saying the verdict will continue to haunt the legal jurisprudence of the apex court on the issue of its status of finality.

He, therefore, invalidated the victory of Uzodinma and reinstated Ihedioha.

  • The Supreme Court, Tuesday, dismissed the application brought by erstwhile Governor Emeka Ihedioha urging it to review its judgment in favour of incumbent Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo state for lack of merit.

Justice Olukayode Ariwoola who read the ruling also said that it is a final judgment of the court.

  • The Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun and Ondo Houses of Assembly on Tuesday passed the Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps bill into law. The bill seeks to unify the proposed law guiding the security outfit (Amotekun) jointly established by the six South-West governors.

  • The Nigeria Senate on Tuesday, moved to strengthen the mandate of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NNRA) to sentence illegal importers of nuclear materials.

The upper chambers said any importer or exporter of prohibited nuclear materials would be jailed for five years or an option of five million naira.

  • Chikwe Ihekweazu, Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), has been placed on 14 days isolation few days after returning from China.

Osagie Ehanire, Minister of Health, who announced this on Tuesday, when he met with the senate, said Ohanire has been quarantined in its activities to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.

  • The Modibbo Adama University of Technology (MAUTECH), Yola, has dismissed two senior lecturers for alleged involvement in sexual harassment, and a registry staff for financial fraud.

The Governing Council of the university, in a statement by Information and Protocol Officer of the university, Aminu Gururmpawo, named the affected lecturers as Dr Yakubu Bobboi and Dr Toma Fulani Mbahi, both of the Department of Animal Science and Range Management.

  • Results of the 2020 West African Senior School Certificate Examination, WASSCE for private candidates has been released

Head of WAEC in Nigeria, Mr Olu Olanipekun, who made this disclosure during a press briefing in Lagos on Tuesday, revealed that the examination which was concluded on February 4 across the federation was marked in three centres in Nigeria, Abeokuta, Enugu and Kaduna between February 15 and February 28.

  • The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami (SAN), said on Tuesday that the latest recovered tranche of the funds looted by the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha, has yet to be repatriated to Nigeria.

Malami, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media and Public Relations, Dr Umar Gwandu, was reacting to a claim by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party that the recovered loot had been looted.

  • The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its anger over the Supreme Court’s refusal to reverse itself and return Emeka Ihedioha as the Governor of Imo State.

The party said the decision of the court on the review application filed by Ihedioha was a disconcerting endorsement of electoral fraud.
