NDLEA Busts Drug Syndicate at Murtala Muhammed International Airport
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully dismantled a drug syndicate operating at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. Six individuals connected to the syndicate were arrested, and a significant quantity of illicit drugs, including 1,210,000 pills of tramadol, were seized during the operation.
The suspects were reportedly using their official cover within the Skyway Aviation Handling Company (SAHCO) shed at the airport to facilitate the smuggling of drugs into the country. The NDLEA also recovered a substantial amount of tramadol pills and bottles of codeine syrup, with an estimated street value exceeding N13 billion.
Among the arrested individuals are Oladele Sanya-Olu, Lawal Itunu Temitope, Sanamo Daniel, Udeh Monday, Musa Mutalib, and Unege Icibor. Three other suspects—Sarki Salami, Abdullahi Aliyu (aka Aboki), and Monday Anwal—are reportedly on the run.
The involvement of SAHCO in this drug-related incident raises concerns about security and access control at the airport. It is reported that a private vehicle owned by one of the suspects, identified as Jide, who is allegedly the cargo manager for SAHCO, was used to transport the drugs. The vehicle has been impounded by the NDLEA.

There are calls for increased security measures at the airport, particularly in areas where access control is crucial to prevent unauthorized individuals or syndicates from exploiting vulnerabilities in the system. The NDLEA and other relevant authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation to address the lapses in security and prevent such incidents in the future.
