Discussions on a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers have reopened between members of the tripartite committee, which is made up of labour groups and the federal government.
The committee met again on Wednesday in Abuja.
Festus Osifo, the president of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), told reporters following the meeting that the federal government had not offered a new minimum wage during the negotiations.
“Nothing has been presented yet. The minister of finance said they are still working on the template that the president mandated them to work on,” he said.

He claimed that they had not presented anything more than what had already been presented and that all they were talking about was the underlying principles of some of these difficulties.
He was therefore hopeful that they would have plenty to talk about when they got together again.
Atiku Bagudu, the minister of national planning and budget, Wale Edun, the minister of finance, and Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, the minister of labour, represented the federal government at the meeting.
There were also federation head of service and secretary to the government representatives in attendance.
Osifo and Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), represented organised labour.
Additionally in attendance was Abdulateef Shittu, the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) director-general.

Remember that organised labour began an indefinite walkout on Monday in response to the federal government’s refusal to accede to their demands for a rise in the minimum wage.
The government deemed the proposed national minimum wage of N615,500 and N494,000 put forth by organised labour to be unfeasible.
In order to facilitate talks with the federal government about a new minimum wage, organised labour on Tuesday eased the industrial action for a period of one week.
