The Federal Government of Nigeria has confirmed an upcoming increase in the cost of obtaining a Nigerian passport, effective from September 1, 2024. This change was communicated by Kenneth Udo, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), through a statement shared on the NIS’s official X (formerly Twitter) account.
The decision to raise the passport fees is part of the government’s efforts to uphold the quality and integrity of the Nigerian Standard Passport. The statement highlighted the need to maintain the high standards associated with the document, which is essential for both national security and international travel.
With the new pricing structure, the cost of a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity will increase from N35,000 to N50,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet, which offers a 10-year validity, will now cost N100,000, up from the previous price of N70,000.
While the NIS acknowledged the potential inconvenience this hike may cause to prospective applicants, it reassured Nigerians of its continued dedication to providing transparent and high-quality services. The agency emphasized its commitment to delivering efficient passport processing and maintaining the standards that the Nigerian Standard Passport represents.
