With the inauguration of the electoral commission, today, by the Executive Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, the gladiators and contenders have started the groundwork in their respective political parties.
In Nnewi North, Anaedoonline.ng gathered that a handful of notable political gladiators are already positioning and aligning to contest for the Chairmanship of Nnewi North Local Government Area.
DIVISION: NNEWI RESOLVE INTERNAL CRISIS
In the ruling party in the state, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), some members of the party are still nursing the ambition while others are already engaging key stakeholders in serious consultations.
According to the rotation and zoning principle in Nnewi, it is the turn of Umudim Nnewi to produce the candidates for the election in all the parties in accordance with the resolution of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi dated Sunday, 2nd May, 1997.
Our correspondent was reliably informed that while the Chairman of Agbo-Edo Motor Spare Parts, Chief Dennis Ikegwuonu (Onyeisi), and Barr. Chinedu Adili-Ubah (Eziokwu Welu Oke) are seriously in the race, Lady Ngozi Ubah (Ka Nwanyi Jekene), and Hon. Echezona Anazodo are still weighing options.
For Chief Dennis Ikegwuonu, his impressive and what many described as unprecedented achievements in Agbo-Edo Motor Spare Parts remain his selling points, while for Barr. Tino Ubah, his philanthropic activities, financial war chest, and experience in active politics are his major assets.
UPDATE: Engr. Chris Obiorah Reappointed as Nnewi North TC Chairman
Ngozi Ubah, who is the only woman in the race, has a record of active grassroot mobilization for many years, especially during his time with the late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah. She is also angling to secure the support of the wife of Anambra State Governor, Mrs Nonye Soludo, and some key stakeholders in Nnewi. For Echezona Anazodo, who is the youngest in the race, our correspondent gathered that he still considering the direction of some key stakeholders in Nnewi, who he believes might influence the process. His close-knit circle of allies are already encouraging him to declare officially.
While these contenders are likely to clash as the process intensifies, many Nnewi indigenes are mindful of how issues of development of Nnewi fit into the quest for a vibrant, experienced, and competent local government leadership.
