A solemn atmosphere enveloped Nnewi on Friday 22nd of November as dignitaries from across Nigeria gathered to honor the late Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Patrick Ubah (Ebubechukwuuzo). The high-profile burial started with a visit to Igwe Nnewi’s palace and a mass held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Nnewi which drew prominent figures from the political, business, Industrial, entertainment and religious spheres.
A host of Catholic and Anglican bishops and clergy also graced the mass, led by Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Nnewi His Grace, Most Rev. Jonas Benson Okoye.
Nnewi Set to Host Dignitaries for the Burial of Late Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah
The ceremony was marked by prayers, hymns, and tributes reflecting Ubah’s contributions to public service. Speaking during his vote of thanks, Governor Soludo praised the deceased for his dedication and commiserated with Senator Ubah’s family for their resilience in the face of big loss but most importantly revealed the death of the senator is a big loss to the Anambra in general.
In his remarks, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah’s first son, Mr. Ifeanyi Ubah Jr. thanked everyone for their support and revealed that replicating his father’s deeds is a big shoe to fill. He, however, he expressed gratitude to the church, friends of the family and well-wishers, “This is a difficult time for me and my family, but your presence here today gives us strength.”
The funeral, held at his country home Nnewi, was marked by a blend of procession, solemnity and celebration of Senator Ubah’s life. Renowned for his philanthropy and legislative service, Ubah was described as a tireless advocate for his people, he is a visionary leader and a magnanimous philanthropist whose contributions to Anambra State and Nigeria were immeasurable.

The event drew high-profile attendees, including the Senate President represented by Senator Ngwu, Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo, Labour Party leader Peter Obi, business manufaturing magnate Innoson Chukwuma (Innoson), Chika Okafor (Chikason), Chief Gabriel Chukwuma (Gabros), Sir Emeka Offorand Senators Enyinnaya Abaribe, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye, the Igwe cabinet and many others. Also present were Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere, entertainment moguls Obi Cubana, Cubana Chief Priest, E-Money, Zenco and hosts of others.
The presence of business, Industrial leaders, including Innoson and Sir Emeka Offor, highlighted Ubah’s entrepreneurial legacy and his efforts to foster economic growth in Nnewi and beyond. The presence of entertainers like Obi Cubana and Cubana Chief Priest underscored the senator’s influence across diverse sectors.
Ubah’s untimely demise at 52 was described as a significant loss not only to his constituents in Anambra South but to the nation at large. His dedication to legislative excellence and community service resonated through tributes from all quarters. His family, friends, and associates remembered him as a compassionate leader and a devout Christian.
