In line with his vision to make Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) a medical tourist center in West Africa, Prof Joseph Ugboaja OON, Chief Medical Director, has embarked on a fact-finding mission to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
The hospital’s 12-megawatt solar power project, executed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) under the Energising Education Power Project, caught Prof Ugboaja’s attention due to its similarity in capacity, power requirements, and logistical complexities to NAUTH.

During his visit, Prof Ugboaja met with Prof Ahmed Ahidjo, UniMaid’s Chief Medical Director, to explore potential collaborations in information, personnel, and technical exchanges. He also engaged with the Chinese company managing the solar project to discuss replicating the initiative in Nnewi.
This move aligns with the federal government’s efforts to provide quality and affordable healthcare, as exemplified by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s interventions in the health sector and Prof Muhammed Ali Pate’s Health Sector Renewal and Investment Initiative (HSRII).
Prof Ugboaja’s commitment to innovative and futuristic projects underscores his dedication to delivering world-class medical experiences.
