President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council (FEC) have officially dissolved both the Niger Delta Ministry and the Ministry of Sports Development. The decision was made during a high-level FEC meeting held in Abuja on Tuesday, as announced by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the President, via Twitter.
The announcement detailed the creation of a new Ministry of Regional Development, which will now supervise all regional development commissions, including the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), North West Development Commission, South West Development Commission, and the North East Development Commission. This restructuring is seen as a strategic move to centralize and enhance regional development efforts across Nigeria.
Further changes include the dissolution of the Ministry of Sports Development, with its duties being absorbed by the National Sports Commission. This commission will now oversee all sports-related activities in the country, streamlining the administration of sports under one centralized body.
In addition to these changes, the FEC also approved the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Culture and Creative Economy, creating a unified body focused on promoting Nigeria’s tourism, culture, and creative industries. This merger is expected to strengthen the country’s cultural and economic growth by aligning tourism with the booming creative sector.
