The Nigerian government has come under heavy fire from Amnesty International for arresting Bashir Abubakar in Kano.
Because of his participation in the “End Bad Governance in Nigeria” t-shirt campaign, which aims to increase public awareness of the nation’s governance problems, Abubakar was placed under arrest.
Amnesty International demanded in a tweet that Abubakar be released immediately and without conditions, denouncing the arrest as illegal.
The human rights organisation stressed how crucial it is to protect people’s freedom of expression and declared that all authorities must uphold these rights.

The #Kano hashtag helped the campaign get popularity on social media, and it has since generated a lot of discussion about Nigeria’s current state of governance.
Proponents contend that without fear of retaliation, citizens have the freedom to peacefully advocate for more transparency and good government.
The demand for action from Amnesty International comes as worries about Nigeria’s declining space for civil liberties and freedom of speech are becoming more pressing.
Similar concerns have been expressed by international human rights organisations and campaigners, who have urged Nigerian authorities to respect human rights values and shield people who are peacefully expressing their rights.
