President Bola Ahmed Tinubu suspended the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abdulrasheed Bawa, and the Department of State Services (DSS) has initiated an investigation against him.
According to media reports, the President suspended Bawa to enable for a thorough inquiry into the serious allegations of abuse of office brought against him.
“This follows weighty allegations of abuse of office leveled against him,” said the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).

“Mr Bawa has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Director of Operations in the Commission, who will oversee the affairs of the Office of the Chairman of the Commission pending the conclusion of the investigation.”
The DSS summoned Bawa for questioning immediately after his suspension.
According to a source, he was already being questioned about his alleged activities in the facility known as “Yellow House” while he held sway in the commission.
Despite the fact that none of the claims were stated in the statement, reputable sources told the Daily Trust that, among other things, Tinubu and those around him were enraged by Bawa’s role in former President Muhammadu Buhari’s currency redesign program.

While the naira redesign and cashless policy were intended to address monetary and fiscal concerns, Tinubu and others claimed the timing was off and that the strategy was designed to cause them to lose the election.
Remember how Bawa stated a few months back that he was privy to he naira issues.
In a separate interview with the Daily Trust, he said that several politicians have collected billions of naira outside of the banking system. Following the naira redesign program, he added, some governors took attempts to pay wages in cash in order to get rid of obsolete naira notes.
