The brief award ceremony which held yesterday, Saturday, August 16th, 2020, at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III), was sponsored by the Chief Executive Officer of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company, Chief Dr. Innocent Chukwuma (OFR).
Welcoming the law enforcement officials on behalf of Igwe Nnewi, the Chairman of Igwe Nnewi Royal Cabinet, Chief Dan Ulasi (Okeosisi Nnewi) commended the security officials for ensuring the maximum security of Nnewi.
According to him, one of the reasons businesses and industries have been able to thrive in Nnewi was because of the exceptional service of law enforcement. He said that despite being underfunded, the security agencies have been able to make Nnewi one of the safest towns in Nigeria.
Speaking further, he lamented on some of the illegal activities of men of Nigeria Police and Federal Road Safety officials who harass motorcycle riders in Nnewi, while extorting thousands of Naira from them.
He urged the police and road safety officials, to desist from such acts, noting that Nnewi is a commercial town and people should be allowed to ride their motorcycles freely.
While presenting the awards, the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, His Royal Highness, Igwe Kenneth Orizu (III), who was represented by his son, Prince Barr. Obi Orizu (Crown Prince), praised the efforts of the law enforcement officials.
He bemoaned on the activities of the officers of the Special Anti-cultism Squad (SACS) of Nigeria Police, who jump into people’s residence in the unholy hours of the night to arrest, torture and collect a large amount of money from their victims before releasing them.
The crown prince noted that while he is not against the anti-cult squad in carrying out their constitutional responsibility, the police anti-cult squad should show professionalism in the discharge of their duty.
He also urged with the police and road safety officials, to stop the intimidation of motorcycle riders in Nnewi and also to look at current rise in kidnapping of kids in Nnewi.
Expressing his gratitude to Nnewi Community for the Honour, Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Mr. John B. Abang, on behalf of the entire law enforcement agencies, thanked the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi for recognizing their efforts towards promoting safety and security in the State, especially in Nnewi.
He said that the recognition and award is a great encouragement to the security officials and a big plus to Nnewi Community, noting that security officials are underappreciated in Nigeria.
While promising to work for greater peace and security of Nnewi and Anambra State, he assured that he has taken notes of all the complaints especially on the harassment of motorcycle riders and the activities of the anti-cult squad in Nnewi, pleading to address the anomalies.
He also advised Nnewi residents to continue in collaborating with the law enforcement agencies to ensure maximum security in the town.
Beneficiaries of the awards include officers of Nigeria Police Force, Department of Security Security Service, Federal Road Safety Corps, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Vigilante Group.

Abang, Area Commander Nnewi, ACP Sunday Irek, Nnewi Area Command, CSP Ndidi Amaka, CSP NNAMDI ANABIKE, DPO CPS Nnewi, CSP Hassan Lawal, Commander Sars, Mr Sunday Ayuba, Head of DSS Nnewi, Mr. Chidi Ebere, Head of Prisons Nnewi, ACP Uche Agwu, Commander Anti-cult, Chukwudi Okoroagu and other law enforcement officers.
