The Court of Appeal in Abuja has rejected an appeal by Assistant Commissioner of Police, Sunday Ubua, seeking bail.
Ubua is a friend of suspended supercop Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police.
Ubua is being prosecuted for drug-related offenses by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
On Friday, a three-member panel of the appellate court ruled that Ubua’s appeal was without substance and upheld Judge Nwite’s ruling from March 28, 2022.
Court Denies Abba Kyari, Co-defendant Bail Over Alleged Drug Deal
The court denied Ubua’s bail application on March 28 because the prosecution provided sufficient evidence to justify its denial.
In the lead judgment, Judge Stephen Adah upheld that the appellant should have given new evidence to the court to justify the court’s departure from the earlier decision by Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Abuja.
Ubua is on trial with Kyari and three other former members of the Nigeria Police Force special squad on charges of illegal drug selling and tampering with evidence.
