There is no disagreement in Afenifere regarding Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, wanting to run for president, according to Dayo Adeyeye, the national chairman of South West Agenda for Asiwaju 2023 (SWAGA).
He claimed that Pa Reuben Fasoranti is the group’s real leader and that Pa Ayo Adebanjo simply serves as acting head during a program on Thursday.
He claims that Adebanjo’s statements are personal and do not represent the official position of the group.
2023: Afenifere Leader, Pa Adebanjo Discloses Reason For Backing Peter Obi
He asserted that 99 percent of Afenifere members support Tinubu’s bid for the presidency.
Adeyeye said: “I have respect for Adebanjo. He is my leader in Afenifere. As of today, the leader of Afenifere, for clarity is Reuben Fasoranti.
“There is no faction in Afenifere. What Fasoranti has merely done was that since he is advanced in age, he appointed someone to act on his behalf in the interim, and that person is Ayo Adebanjo.
“If a decision is going to be taken by Afenifere, it is not a one-man show.
“What I read in the papers was a personal decision of Adebanjo and not the opinion of Afenifere.
“Whatever Adebanjo said was not a statement issued at the end of a meeting of the organisation. It was his personal decision.
2023: Afenifere Move To Form A New Political Party, Present Own Candidate
“It is not a fact that Afenifere is divided or there is factionalization.
“Ninety-nine percent of the Afeniferes are behind Tinubu.”
The former lawmaker stated that he expects the 2023 general elections to be the most competitive election and one that will be watched more keenly throughout the world.
“I believe we have that candidate who can turn things around for good for Nigeria,” he said.
