On Sunday, the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) announced that flight operations will be suspended on Monday.
On Sunday, AON President Yunusa Abdulmunaf published a statement.
Abdulmunaf indicated that the current price of Jet A1 (N700 per litre) was unsustainable.
He acknowledged that AON was aware of “frantic developments over the previous 24 hours,” but insisted that the organization stands by its decision.

In contrast to “subjective schools of thinking,” he assured the airline owners that they were patriotic citizens who were doing everything they could to safeguard the public.
He went on to say that the closure was “a communal sacrifice for the common good of our country.”
Abdulmunaf regretted the position taken by Ibom Air, which announced it would not withdraw its services.
He added that “airlines are not on strike” but were private investors who do not depend on government funds.
“I use this medium to appeal to the conscience of our esteemed passengers for their understanding,” the statement added.
