Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, the governor of Ondo State, formally informed the State House of Assembly of his medical leave in accordance with medical advice that advocates for ongoing health monitoring following recuperation.

The Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, acknowledged receipt of the letter on behalf of other legislators and confirmed that the Governor’s conduct is in compliance with Section 190 of the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s (as amended) Constitution.

Until a contrary written declaration is made, Deputy Governor Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa is now designated to take on the governorship in an acting capacity, according to the communication.

This information was revealed by Bamidele Ademola-Olateju, the Commissioner of Ondo State, on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics. She said that Tinubu requested a formal resignation from the deputy governor, with no date, in case something went wrong.

Thursday’s state executive council meeting was presided over by Deputy Governor Aiyedatiwa, signalling a significant development following months of political strife with Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

The Presidency acknowledged that Tinubu’s intervention resulted in a decision that kept Aiyedatiwa in her capacity as deputy governor and kept Akeredolu in her position as governor.

Ademola-Olateju, stated, “First of all before I even talk about the Abuja meeting I just want to thank Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for being a very good leader, wielding into the crisis in Ondo State

“His intervention has cooled the temperature that was just going haywire in Ondo State, we thank him. At the Abuja meeting, key decisions were made by Mr President who is the leader of our party the All Progressives Congress. Those key decisions were that the status quo in the state be maintained.

“He decided that the executive council must not be dissolved under any condition and the party structure should be maintained, that the leadership of the House of Assembly should be intact and he nominated three people; the Secretary to the State Government, the party chairman and the speaker of the house to be the enforcers and to forestall further problems.

“He asked for the signed resignation letter of Honourable Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor undated in case anything untoward happens, so that is what I know,” the commissioner disclosed.

In addition, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly dropped an appeal against the Federal High Court of Abuja’s decision to stay Aiyedatiwa’s scheduled impeachment from the Court of Appeal in Abuja.

A few days after their peace conference with President Bola Tinubu in Abuja, members of the Ondo State House of Assembly will convene on Tuesday to talk about the state’s political landscape.

One of the main topics on the Assembly’s agenda for today’s plenary, according to a source in the Assembly who talked with Punch, is whether or not to designate Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the state deputy governor, as the acting governor in lieu of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who has been absent for a long time.

The source said, “The House plans to sit tomorrow (Tuesday) and Aiyedatiwa may be declared acting governor during the sitting. This is part of the outcome of the meeting with President Tinubu.”

The Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, when asked about the development said he was at a meeting.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, in an effort to end the protracted political unrest in the state, President Tinubu met with the leaders of the Assembly and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state last Friday in Abuja.

After leaving the meeting with Tinubu, the Assembly announced that it had decided not to proceed with the deputy’s impeachment due to allegations of serious misbehaviour.

Aiyedatiwa further declared that he would bring all the parties involved with him and leave the past behind.

Following his lengthy medical vacation in Germany, the governor returned to the country, sparking a dispute between Akeredolu and his deputy.

The lawmakers were split over the Assembly’s decision to impeach the deputy governor.

It was reported that all participants in the Friday meeting had decided to maintain the status quo, meaning that Akeredolu would continue to serve as governor, Aiyedatiwa as deputy governor, and no impeachment would go place.

Court Strikes Out Case Against Ondo Deputy Gov, Aiyedatiwa

A high court in Akure, the capital of Ondo State, dismissed the state government’s and governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s lawsuit on Monday regarding the compilation of the appeals record.

Claiming that the process of settlement and compilation of record of appeal for the hearing of the appeal filed by the Deputy Governor would violate their rights, the claimants in the case had sued four registrars of the High Court, the Deputy Governor, the House of Assembly, the Speaker of the House and the Chief Judge of Ondo State.

When the case was called before Justice D. I. Kolawole, he stated that the claimants, via their solicitors, had requested to withdraw the lawsuit, stating that circumstances had changed.

Ondo Assembly Deny Suspending Impeachment Process Against Aiyedatiwa

In response, the Deputy Governor’s attorney filed a counterclaim and a defence to the litigation, arguing that problems had been raised. The attorney then challenged the oral move to withdraw the matter.

The complaint was wiped out when the judge ruled that the plaintiffs were allowed to withdraw per the court’s procedures.

Next, in an effort to keep the lawsuit’s subject matter alive, the Deputy Governor’s attorney asked the court to instruct the parties to keep things as they are.

The House of Assembly’s legal representative contested the application.

After directing all parties to uphold the peace in its verdict, the court postponed the matter until November 22, 2023, for hearing of applications.

He expressed his sadness at the shame and discomfort brought on by the constant stream of bad news about the issue over the past few months.

According to the Deputy Governor, there is no problem between him and the Governor, but other political players took advantage of his boss’s absence to provoke a crisis in order to forward their own agendas.

The Speaker had declared that the House had put a halt to the impeachment proceedings during the meeting in Abuja with Abdullahi Ganduje, the National Chairman of the APC, and other prominent members of the party.

After that, the House demanded that Aiyedatiwa withdraw all of the lawsuits she had brought against the MPs and Akeredolu.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) intervention in the conflict between Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, may take a different route, according to reports that the bulk of the APC Peace Committee members sympathise with Aiyedatiwa.

According to Anaedoonline.ng, the party’s National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, established a reconciliation committee to resolve the political dispute between Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa.

Ade Adetimehin, Aiyedatiwa, and members of the National Assembly in Abuja had been invited and engaged by the committee.

A party leader told Vanguard committee members that the deputy governor was given a tactical soft landing during the peace meeting.

The source said: “Majority of the committee members took sides with Aiyedatiwa because they have an unresolved grudge with Akeredolu.

“The grudges against Akeredolu were based on his intervention on national issues, especially his outspokenness during the former President Muhammadu Buhari administration.

“The committee already made up its mind. Except for the former governor of Osun State and Lagos State deputy governor, others in the committee have one or two issues to settle with the governor.

“Many of them have been waiting for an opportunity to flex muscles with the governor. They see Akeredolu as a very stubborn person. They didn’t like his public stance on issues like Fulani herdsmen and demand for restructuring.

“There are people in the committee that hated Akeredolu because he led the establishment of Amotekun in the Southwest. Most of the moves against the governor now are because of his stance on national issues.

“The committee is also biased. Truth is that seven out of the eight members of the House of Representatives and the three Senators from the state have asked Aiyedatiwa to go and apologize to his boss, but the committee is assuring him that nothing will happen to him even if he doesn’t apologize.

“As it stands, the committee is not giving any chance to the governor. It’s clear that the recommendation will be against the governor and members of the House of Assembly.”
