Ndume Blasts Akpabio Over ‘Enjoyment Allowance’ Comment

The Senate will take severe measures against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over the two million naira enjoyment token, according to Borno South Senator Ali Ndume.

Ndume argued that Akpabio’s remarks were unworthy of an eminent figure.

Senators earned two million naira, Ndume said in a BBC Hausa Service interview.

He regretted, though, that Akpabio’s comment had embarrassed the senators.

According to him: “All senators received N2 million. And I am making this comment with a heavy heart because he (Akpabio) is the cause of this controversy.

“He made a very wrong statement, and I warned him immediately that his comments were unbecoming of an elder.

“In fact, we are even planning to take drastic action against him if he continues making unguarded statements and acting as if we are kids.”

In the face of claims that President Bola Tinubu has withdrawn his support for Akpabio’s bid for the senate presidency, the director general of the Akpabio/Barau Stability Group, Ali Ndume, remains firmly behind Akpabio.

He dismissed the claims, attributing them to election-season political maneuvering.

There were rumors that Tinubu ceased backing Akpabio as a result of various corruption charges that were connected to him.

In his remarks on the study on Wednesday, Ndume emphasized that it is not a new practice.

He noted, “President Bola Tinubu faced the same sort of accusations during his presidential campaign.”

Ndume said, “It is not surprising that whenever a politically exposed person is contesting elections, some people would be sponsored to raise issues against him or her.

“Don’t forget that President Bola Tinubu was also severally accused when he was campaigning to be president.

“We are not actually bothered about what the sponsored groups are saying about Akpabio, the anti-graft agencies know what to do. Why are they teaching them what to do?

“They are alleging that some corrupt activities took place under his watch at the NDDC but they did not say he misappropriated funds as governor or as minister.

“Akpabio was not the accounting officer of the NDDC, he only supervised the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.

“They also accused him of not constituting the board of the NDDC but that also was not his job. The president of the country is saddled with such responsibility.”

The choice of Senators Godswill Akpabio and Barau Jibrin as Senate President and Deputy Senate President of the 10th National Assembly is supported by 69 of the 109 senators-elect, according to former Senate majority leader Senator Ali Ndume.

Ndume made this statement on Sunday while some senators supporting Akpabio and Jibrin confronted Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the governor of Lagos State, at Lagos House in Marina.

The 69 senators-elect, according to the Borno South senator, are part of the “Stability Group” and have already signed off on their objective.

Ndume bragged that the former governor of Akwa Ibom would easily win the Senate’s top post.

Based on the 69 senators’ support for him regardless of their political affiliations, Akpabio stated in his response that he was confident of winning.

In order to realize his patriotic ambition in the nation, the former governor of Akwa Ibom State vowed to cooperate with the incoming president Tinubu.

Akpabio said: “We would collaboratively work with others and the governor to ensure Lagos succeeds, bring foreign direct investment, and make sure Nigeria becomes a business-friendly destination for all, among other benefits.

“Today, we about 69 and its still growing. By June, we expect this group two have risen to about 85 or 86, and all I know is that we will win.”

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Borno South Senator spoke out against Senate President zoning, emphasizing that the fairness of the zoning arrangements will influence the success of his bid.

He criticized the APC’s choice to insist on zoning arrangements for posts in the National Assembly although such arrangements were ignored during the presidential primary election.

2023: Ali Ndume Reveals Who Asked Rotimi Amaechi To Run For President

Ali Ndume, a member representing Borno South senatorial district, branded Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi’s presidential aspiration as his project on Tuesday.

Amaechi had already indicated his desire to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, according to Anaedoonline.ng.

Following his formal announcement, the minister has been visiting with stakeholders around the nation, with Ndume accompanying him on his journeys.

Ndume, appearing on Channels TV on Tuesday, said Amaechi is the finest presidential candidate among those vying for the All Progressives Congress’ presidential ticket (APC).

He said, “I am one of those who had asked Amaechi to run. I started it. That is my project. I was one of those who asked Amaechi to run because I feel at this critical time we need a Nigerian to run, not somebody who will run based on where he comes from or region; not somebody who is not experienced enough; and not somebody who does not have the pedigree, energy and intellect to run.

“In the APC, I feel the best candidate we can present is Amaechi. I don’t want to use the word that he is better than those who you listed. The best doesn’t mean others are not good enough. When you have very good people, then you pick the best. He is the best.”

The Chairman Senate Committee on Army noted that the former governor of Rivers State will be a great candidate for the highest political office in the country as he described him as someone who “has the pedigree, energy and intellect” needed to run Nigeria.

Ambazonia Attack On Taraba Community, Not A Threat On Territorial Integrity of Nigeria – Ndume

Borno South Senator, Ali Ndume has rejected the idea that the recent attack by Ambazonia fighters on a community in Taraba State is a threat on the territorial integrity of Nigeria.

He said what happened should not be viewed as an attack by the separatist group or Cameroon on Nigeria as a country.

According to the lawmaker, the area of attack is a border community between Nigeria and Cameroon, hence based on information available so far on the incident, what happened was a communal clash.

Ndume made his views known on Thursday while reacting to Wednesday’s revelation that a separatist group from Cameroon known as the Ambazonia fighters attacked Takum LGA of Taraba State killing the village head and some residents of Manga community.

Making his views known during an interview with Channels TV on Thursday, Ndume said the matter can’t be viewed as an external aggression against Nigeria but a case of border communities getting involved in a communal conflict which the lawmaker added is not unusual.

“I don’t want you to take it the way you say now like an external aggression. I have listened to the governor, this is more of communal or tribal conflict that affect communities along our borders,” he said.

“You know the borders of Nigeria and Cameroon stretches from Taraba and even down to Cross River, up to Borno in my local government — Gwoza LGA.

“We have several villages and towns across the borders and mostly it is divided by rivers and you can see that the Manga village is a resettled resettlement from the location of the dam construction.

“As the governor said, the details are not yet out. This kind of communal clashes between tribes and communities happen not frequently but it can happen especially these days.

“Basically, economic and sometimes political reasons, in rare cases, even religious.

“This one is not a threat to our territorial integrity. What I’m suspecting, because the reports are not clearly out, is more of a communal clash.

News Update: Court Orders Senator Ndume’s Arrest For Failing To Produce Maina

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday ordered the remand of Senator Ali Ndume over his inability to produce former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reformed Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, who has jumped bail in respect of his ongoing N2bn money laundering trial.

Justice Okon Abang ordered that the Borno South Senator who stood surety for the fleeing defendant in May 2020 would only be released from prison until he either produces Maina in court or sells off the N500m worth of property located in Asokoro, Abuja, which was used as the guarantee for the bail bond and tenders the evidence of the payment of the proceeds of the sale into the Federation Account.

The judge ordered that he be remanded in Kuje prison pending when he meets the condition for release.

The Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume has said that he is disappointed with the President Muhammadu Buhari’s government for rehabilitating repentant members of Boko Haram.

Ndume spoke on Wednesday at the closed-door budget defense session with the Nigerian Army.

Ndume, who has always seen the government’s deradicalizing of ex-Boko Haram members as a misplacement of priority, insisted that it was wrong for this administration to be resettling and pampering former terrorists while the country is still at war.

“I am in disagreement with the government,” Ndume buttressed.

The lawmaker, who represents Borno South, noted that members of the dreaded terrorist group who are captured during military operations can be kept as prisoners of war and later tried in accordance with the law.

Ndume pointed out that the recent “Damboa attack was carried out by a repentant Boko Haram member.”

The lawmaker said that “the repentant Boko Haram member was feeding the terror group information regarding the movement of the army.”

He said that it was unfair to have the government waste its resources on those who threaten the peace of the nation.

Ali Ndume, senator representing Borno south, has narrated how Boko Haram insurgents killed more than 70 people in one night during a raid on his hometown in Gwoza local government area.

Ndume disclosed this on Wednesday at a meeting organised by the senate committee on special duties and the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Maiduguri.

According to the senator, he can’t go to his hometown because it is not safe.

“If the senate committee would take time during their stay to go round some of the camps and even the nearby Konduga local government area, we would all better appreciate what the people are facing,” he said.

“Even as a serving senator, I still cannot go to Gwoza my hometown because it is not safe.

“Our security operatives are trying their best, and we have to give it to them. But the situation is overwhelming. People are dying every day, either from attacks or as a result of hunger. We have lost many lives here.

“There was a time in my hometown, Gwoza, that about 75 elders, most of whom I know personally, were dragged by Boko Haram to the town’s abattoir and slaughtered like animals. Only two persons survived because their bodies were covered with other people’s’ blood and the assailants thought they were dead.

“In the same Gwoza, Boko Haram had in a single day lined up young men and summarily shot them dead. These were just some standout cases.”

Repeated attacks in the north have led to insecurity in states like Borno, despite the efforts of the military to bring the situation under control.

On July 29, gunmen opened fire on the convoy of the Borno governor on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the northern part of the state.

The attack on the governor came a few days after some humanitarian workers were executed by Boko Haram insurgents.
